Even if your ATEM is running all the time a button like that might be useful as a quick way to get the connection working again if it gets stuck.Similar to its predecessor, the ATEM Mini, the ATEM Mini Pro from Blackmagic Design is a four-input live production switcher with an integrated control panel designed for multicamera live streaming up to HD video to the internet or broadcast applications from gaming consoles, corporate computer streams, or HD cameras. If you're manually turning the ATEM on and off you could still have a button to enable and disable the ATEM instance in Companion.
In my case I'm using remote power control so I added the enabling/disabling of the ATEM instance right into the button that turns the ATEM on and off (with an appropriate delay on power on to make sure the ATEM is ready to respond before enabling the instance).
That way I get a nice fresh new connection to the ATEM each time rather than the instance continually running and trying to adapt to the ATEM turning on and off. So I added a command in Companion which disables the ATEM instance when I power the ATEM down and re-enables the instance when I power the ATEM back up. It may not be related to the issues you're seeing or even apply to your situation, but this is one thing that helps me: Since I turn my ATEM on and off as needed while my computer and Companion keep running, I found that the ATEM instance in Companion wouldn't always be happy with losing and regaining its connection to the ATEM.
